F4i 600 1st gear

I just got my 03 cbr f4i 600..im a beginner as far as riding can anyone give me good tips on how to go into first gear without stalling. I know your suppose to let the clutch go slighty and give it gas.. i got it going a couple times but i also stalled as well. My buddy told me to rev it up and as it comes down let the clutch go. I dont know if this will work or not

Learn the clutch. Get used to the friction zone. This is when the bike starts to move on its own without any throttle what so ever. Once you get used to what it feels like to release the clutch to that area then give it some throttle and continue to slightly release the clutch. DONT give it gas then start releasing the clutch. If you do that, especially when you are new, you are gonna over rev it. You'll dump the clutch and the bike will jerk, then you'll crank on the throttle because you are holding it with a death grip, causing the bike to shoot right out of your legs and there goes a $4k investment.

Practice, practice, practice. And go take your MSF it'll help immensely.

Practice! i disagree with your friend..its better to stall it then let take off with or without you..the friction zone is key..if you have access to a quad that would be great practice

this is what your friend is describing

How not to release the clutch

What a sad waste of a stretched zx14!

yog182 01-24-2010 09:51 PM

It was a sad waste to begin with because it was stretched.

teko1020 01-24-2010 09:53 PM

100% disagree. ZX14 is a straightline bike and having it stretched helps keep the front down.

+1 for MSF!
