Default F4 and F4i Alternators

I was reading my Clymer and noticed that the F4 makes significantly less wattage than the F4i. This is a pain in the *** for those of us who tour, and would like power for other things (vests, GPS, Autocom, heated grips, etc etc)

According to Clymer the F4 makes 343 watts at 5000 rpm, and the F4i makes 433 watts. That is signifincant when you consider that the vest draws ~44 watts, and that the grips might pull 20 watts. This gives a significant safety margin back... and it also means that the bikes fan won't drain the battery below 5000rpm in traffic.

Has anyone swapped the F4i part into the F4? Looks to me that on paper it would be worth it... but I'm not sure if it would be possible without modifying the wiring.

Default RE: F4 and F4i Alternators

On Ron Ayres both the F4 and F4i list two parts for the stator:

31120-MBW-611 - $184
http://www.ronayers.com/browseparts....e.ronayers.com

31120-MBW-J21 - $193
http://www.ronayers.com/browseparts....e.ronayers.com

What is interesting about that, is that for other parts that are different between the bikes they have seperate folders (like airbox 99-00, airbox 01-06)... for this they list both parts for both models. It may just be a bolt on part!?!
