F3 900RR wheel swap

Ok, so I would like to put 6 spoke wheels on my F4i track bike. I think the 3 spoke wheels are horrible. Anyway, thru some deductive reasoning on Ronayers.com, I figured out that the 900RR rear axle size and F3 front axle size are the same as the F4i. So the only issue now is spacing. I would think the front would be a direct fit, what do you guys think? As for the rear, maybe a spacer would need to be machined? That is really all I can think. It should be pretty easy. Any input? Anyone try this? If no, I just might try it and see how it goes.

You might be able to convince one of the 900RR owners to measure for you. Go here and ask nicely! ;)

Not sure about the front wheel but the back 900rr does fit.
Check this thread for 6 spoke options guy used a 900rr rear wheel and a vfr front

Looks like he has a 600RR swingarm though?

ssweetbro 04-25-2011 10:32 AM

Ok, cool. Glad to know about the VFR. I am pretty sure I can make both fit without any complications. I will let everyone know.

This has been done a few times before and looks great, problem is your doing this on your trackbike. The 6 spoke rims are way heavier then the 3 spokes so you'll be loosing performance, not ideal for a trackbike.

ssweetbro 04-25-2011 11:22 AM

Ugh, why do the 3 spokes have to look so GAY!!!!!!!!! Why couldnt Honda and Suzuki have been like Yamaha and Kawi and gone with good looking rims?

What is the weight differnce? A VFR front wheel looks so slim and stuff. Bummer that it weighs more.

How much do you want less gay looking wheels?

Yea, I know. Sadly, my credit card wont let me want them that bad. Ha

boredandstroked 04-25-2011 09:21 PM

Im thinking I should put the older rims on my f4i now that it won't be seeing the track ever again. They sure are purdy

ssweetbro 04-25-2011 10:11 PM

Much better looking. I already paid a guy for a 900rr rear, I may be getting an F3 front tomorrow. If so, I will check weights between them and my stock wheels. I will let everyone know.

boredandstroked 04-25-2011 10:16 PM

Is the F3 a 17" rim? My biggest thing if it is would be getting the stock F4i brake rotors to mount up. If they mount no problem Im all over this and will have some f4i rims up for sale soon :)

Cbr600 F3 / F4 Wheels ? - VFR Discussion

ssweetbro 04-26-2011 10:15 AM

Yea, they all use the same rotor size...............well, not "ALL" but the newer VFR and F3 are 296, just like the F4i.

F34Me? 04-26-2011 11:13 AM

I called my local junk yard to ask about doing a fair trade on the wheels, stating that the 3 spoke are worth more to them since they're from a newer model and it would be in their best interest. They said they have two 900RR's and a few F3's and said they will "get back to me".

slowride 04-26-2011 11:16 AM

Does anyone know if an 03rr rear wheel will fit on a 2000 f4????

ssweetbro 05-13-2011 03:53 PM

Anybody have a weight on an F4i rear wheel? How much lighter are they?

__Z__ 05-13-2011 03:57 PM

lol not enough of a difference to feel it im sure...

ssweetbro 05-13-2011 04:56 PM

Yea, serious! That wheel you sent me, no rotor, no cush, no paint 14.996 pounds. I am gonna weigh the F4i after it comes off. I will report back, ha.

ssweetbro 05-13-2011 05:39 PM

K, a Marchesini aluminum weighs 9.98 pounds, the 900rr is 14.996. The stock F4i wheel has GOT to be 14 pounds I would think. Who knows.
