Exhaust Tape: Yea or Nay?
1 Attachment(s)
Hey Y'all!
I've already got a little bit of ugliness on a portion of my exhaust. I was thinking of wrapping some exhaust tape around the area. Anyone out there have any helpful comments/complaints/suggestions? Attachment 28797 ^Right there between the muffler and the fairing area. |
Tape? You mean fiberglass wrap?
Sure, go for it, it's just going to look a little different - that's all. It doesn't tend to last all that long, and it's deterioration is accelerated if you ride in any sort of bad weather (rain). Beware - that stuff will make you itch like crazy - and it gets everywhere. Use gloves, sunglasses, long sleeved T-shirt. And don't do any activities without changing clothes afterwards. |
Are you talking about header wrap or some kind of tape?
Try it. If you don't like it, take it off. Edit: you beat me on the response this time conrice... I will get you next time! |
Why no high heat black paint? We did this on my friends bike where I welded part of it and it looked great.

I concur ^ I did my whole pipe including headers in high heat enamel. I think high heat ceramic would be better but it wasnt readily available at the time. I would try that route first personally. I read a couple places that wraps and what not can acually weaken the pipe because it gets hotter or somthing of that nature. Honestly im not sure if its true or not but just figured id pass that info on. CHeers.

do have some black high heat paint in the garage. But, then I'd hafta do a bunch more work. And the lazy man in me says, ferk that!
Then again, this cool Texas weather would make the job easier. Is there an "easy" way of taking the pipe off so that I don't have to cover the whole bike? |

The one time I painted headers, it was on my Buell. I taped newspapers everywhere so that ONLY the pipe was exposed, and then I put a few coats of paint on and baked it on using the exhaust gas as per the instructions. |
Sounds complicated.
