Default Exhaust leak or something else?

Hello,

Long time lurker, first time writer.
I recently did my license and also bought a 2005 CBR 600 F4i which is running great.
There is only one issue that is somewhat troubling me..there seems to be some black "soothe" (?) near the exhaust headers..and it's also making some weird chirping noise (when cold) which turns into a "clicking" noise later on..increases with RPM's.
The dark stuff only appears near one header, all the rest are clear and clean. I scratched it off once to see if it would re-appear (the silver scratched area) and it did..

So my question is - could this be a exhaust leak from a broken gasket maybe or could this also be something else?

Thank you.

Welcome and thanks for the intro! I've not dealt with that specific issue but would put money on your guess being correct! And, since your going to have to take a look at all four, might as well replace the other 3 at the same time.

Now, those pics were... decent for problem diagnosis, but we'd like to see the whole bike!

Thank you for the feedback. I will just go on ahead and order the 4 gaskets then - i will let you guys know once they arrive and i take it apart if it was the issue or not.
And as for the whole bike:

Nice looking bike, thanks for sharing. Be sure to clean up the mating surfaces before putting the new gaskets in.

Thank you for all the feedback - i ordered the gaskets and they will take around a week to arrive.
Meanwhile i also made a video of the sound. . maybe this could also help troubleshoot a bit..granted youtube butchers the quality quite a bit. :

Yeah, that is really hard to tell. I kept waiting to hear something "abnormal".... maybe a slight hissing? Otherwise, it sounded just like mine!

Here's hoping we've all diagnosed correctly and the gasket is all that is needed!

I think it's most relevant from 15s onwards when the RPM's go up the "ticking" or "clicking" also goes up.
Standing next to the bike you can hear it pretty clearly.
But i will wait for the gaskets and let you guys know, thanks again.

Okay, from 2nd glance it looks like i might be chasing 2 separate issues..one about the "sooth" under exhaust manifold and another about the "ticking".
I went and took the plastics off today and made sure all the screws are OK etcetc and then turned the bike on. I then took a screwdriver and put one end on my ear and another on various parts of the bike in order to try and find a more precise locations for this ticking..
I found that it's more noticeable when i put the screw driver in these areas:

Any idea what might be causing ticking sounds from inside there?
