Easy question
This should be pretty straight forward but i just got my bike and cant find the answer online.
My coolant is starting to run low and i need to add more. What is the mixture ratio or is it just the same as adding it to a car? Thanks |
Go buy the Honda coolant from your local dealer. That will be premixed so your just pour right in. You can't use regular car coolant in bikes.

I've been running a mix of antifreeze/coolant (generic car stuff), distilled water, and water wetter for years now with no ill effects (roughly 48%/48%/4%). I used to just run water wetter and distilled water, but the anti-corrosive stuff in the coolant seemed like a good idea (the antifreeze parts don't come into play too much out here.) |
ummm ive been using car coolant the past year and everything is fine? I figured if its aluminum safe for a car itll work in the bike to... and it has for me anyway.
|
The fact that your coolant is "starting to run low" is the problem i would really worry about....
|
Make sure the coolant doesn't have silicate inhibitors and is safe for aluminum. If you find a car coolant that meets this criteria then you should be okay. Also make sure you use distilled water and not tap water. When I changed my coolant I bought the Honda coolant in the blue bottle. It is not that expensive and provides ease of mind knowing you can just put it in and be done. Don't have to worry about if it is the right coolant or not.

What color should the coolant be?
I know car coolant comes in green or orange. |
I believe the Honda coolant is green
