Default Did I bend the valves?

Trying to get back into the cbr right now.

I had done the valve shimming. Put it together, but the APE cct was loose, and when I turned the engine over by hand, the exhaust cam jumped, it did not turn with the chain.

Bent valve(s)?

Sounds like this would be alot of money to give to dealership and fix. If I just buy a used cylinder head and throw it on, it should be fine in terms of the head mating with the bottom end?

(I am currently looking at the top of cylinder head, with cams in, and chain on. Take that off and check it out? Do a leak down?)

Take 2 measurements, 1 with the knuckle on valve pressing down and 1 with the knuckle out. See what variance you have to the 100th... you shouldn't be more than .14-.25 mm throughout all 16 valves.. both on the intake and the exhaust sides.. if you have one set completely out then yes you have a damaged valve..

okay, I see.

1Set the cam lobes to compress the springs (facing down). Measure.

2. Set the cam lobe to point out towards the front of bike. Measure.

3.Find difference

Right?

yes. the exhaust side will face the front, intake will face the back of the bike. what did you get?

going to do it soon. Can I assume that since I only saw the exhaust cam jump back, the intake is fine? The intake always kept its pace with the rotation.

I would check it just to be sure before putting the cover back on... another thing I would check is to put a turn counter clockwise and check that particular one.. see if it does the same thing as clockwise... You may find that you indeed have a bad valve or need a serious adjustment on that particular pair..
