Dented tank... should I keep it covered

I bought my 01 with a small-medium size dent on the left side of the tank. it looks like it was tipped over in a garage and caught the edge of something. Anyway, the bike had a tank bra on it when I bought it and I have left it on to keep the dent covered. I like the way the bikes look with the wind decal going from the fairing to the tank... should I take off the tank bra and have the dent out for all to see, or leave the bra on and have the bike look unblemished. :icon_shrug: Decisions, decisions.

Um, that's up to you. So, yeah.

Lemme tell ya about my tank dent.

Same thing happened to me, golfball size dent in tank up near the top, where it turns downward. I was painting the bank anyway, so my paint shop pulled the dent out with a slap hammer, which involves tack welding a little fitting that you screw the hammer into. Filled, smoothed, sanded, painted. Perfect.

A year later, the tank starts leaking. Turns out the weld left a little hole, gas got through it, loosened the patch. My shop redid the tank and no charge. Perfect job again. Six months later, same thing.

So I bought a used tank and he'll gonna paint that for me, again no charge. Good shop.

Don't know why the patch didn't take. This guy does dozens of these things, custom built tanks, weld jobs, all sorts of stuff.

I guess if it were me, I'd leave the cover on it. They look good to my eye and protect the tank.
