The day spent well

Aye aye!

Got some time today, so decided to change oil/oil filter/stator cover.

OMG! I started draining the oil and I don't know if I could name it oil... It definitely was a liquid of some sort. The previous owner claimed he kept the bike maintained, but as far as I can say and see it wasn't quite true. I even think that the oil filter was stock :icon_doh:
Since I drained the substance very well and pretty much from everywhere, I put 4qt of oil. Ended up draining some out though.

Stator cover was a small pain though. When putting everything inside the new cover I broke the head of one of the bolts. The thread got stuck inside as a result (yea yea stupid me, over tightened). I called one local bike shop and luckily enough they were able to get it out.

Took her for a short ride. Such difference!!! Runs like new!
Well, that's about it. Just wanted to share this with you.

Ride safe and don't ever procrastinate when the time comes to change oil!!!

Thanks!

I'd hope he changed it AT LEAST once.

But a productive day is always fun.

I need to do this soon. What kind of oil do you use btw? I want to change my air filter too. It probably needs it and I swear by K&N filters.

I used Castrol 10W-40 Synthetic 4 stroke and K&N oil filter. Also make sure to have torque wrench, it will help a lot.

I have also recently changed air filter. The procedure didn't take that long. Just make sure you have some bungee ropes to hold the tank up right.

I used these how-to's: http://www.shraz.net/motorcycle/f4i/#

That's not good to hear about the oil. I changed mine a few months ago at an interval of 2750 (the bike has a bit over 10k now) and wanted to put it back in cause it was so clean.

I think changing oil is the best thing you can do to keep the engine/gear box/etc running well. I'd say an interval of 3k mi is the way to do it.

Mine has a bit over 12k now.
