Stopping only for fuel and food? Apart from a sore **** for the rider....would the bike make it?

edit: When I say "make it" I mean without damaging the bike in any way...I read something about cleaning the chain every 300 miles!!?

If you can do it the bike can easily do it.

LOL...I read it from Blackdog...thought it was essential.

Not sure if my body will be able to make the trip...I hope so. I travel to Italy by car quite often...I would like to go there with the CBR. It's the most amazing place in the world for a bike which was made for twisties. Italy has a mountain range running all down it's length, sort of like a spine...and Italians don't like tunnels...LOL. I used to use a little Vespa to explore with when I was there...I love it.

are you practicing for the baja 1000? you'd have to average 42 mph for 24 hours straight to make it 1000 miles. crazy[sm=alcoholic.gif]

LOL...no...I meant within a 24hr time span. I take anything from 14 to 20 hours when I go to Italy by car...depends if I stop off in the north (about 800 miles) where I have various bits of family...or I head south (more fun) where I have a very good friend. I do about 80-90 mph continuos in a car...and stop off just twice though (two full tanks) and once to get on the train or boat to cross the English channel. I calculate I'll have to stop about 7 times for petrol on the CBR, but I can make up time by keeping it on the 100-110 mph bracket through France. Should work out the same in the end.

Man, you're asking for it. Even 1000 miles in a day by car sucks! After you get off the bike, you'll be hunched over for like a week and sitting on a big bag of ice!

Like others have said, the bike will make it if you can.

I did 950miles once, half on a Sat the other half the next day on Sunday. Not quite the same, but 400+ miles is a lot for a sportbike. (I did that on a 91' FZR 600 geared down 1 up 1.)

My advice FWIW:
1- Get a throttle rocker or get a throttle lock.
2- Get a very comfy gel seatpad cushion to put on your seat.
3- Don't wear a backpack, trust me on this one.

Your chain will survive, eyeball it when you stop for gas and at least hit it with spray chain lube every 500mi.

i did detroit michigan to norfolk virginia last month, a 725 mile trip in just under 13 hours on my f4i. this is no joke that night i looked in the mirror and my left butt check had a rash on it like i had been dragged across a rug, it took me about 2 days before i could sit down again and not feel pain.
