Default clutch-free upshifting?

I often do this when riding dirtbikes, and realized it works out pretty well on the F4i too. Does anyone else do this? Will it damage the transmission at all? Basically when I'm ready to upshift, in a fluid motion I drop the throttle and hit the gearshift, then immediately reapply throttle. The bike doesn't jump at all, and is actually smoother than shifting with the clutch. Just curious if I'm going to regret this later...

What did your transmission ever do to you?

Yes it's proven to cause damage. it'll round out the edges of your shift drum, and one day she just wont stay in gear anymore. not an easy fix. someone just posted pictures not to long ago of this.....

I've read posts that upshifting was fine without a clutch and actually less damaging than using the clutch?

It's a topic where you'll have a plenty on both sides of the argument.

I've seen pictures of chewed up shift dogs from a guy that said he always used clutchless shifting, abused bike maybe? who knows. Im not looking to find out on my own.

here a good thread that will show both sides.

As long as you do it properly you should be fine. This is why they invented quickshifters. Obviously don't do clutchless downshifts.
