clutch

so got a small problem... 2nd gear wheelies will not work after bike has had time to warm up. within 30ish minutes the bike can do 2nd gear without issue but after that you can redline and dump and just get hard acceleration. I thought maybe it was just me, handed my bike to a experienced stunter and same issue.

So I bought a EBC friction plate kit. Does anyone have any info on wether they are good? I've had ebc on all my cars brakes but never thought about a bikes clutch. Any info you could give me on how well or how crappy it is would be awesome.

so no one has any info on ebc friction plates ? hmm guess i'll have to find out myself if they are worth it then.

So disected my bike using the service manual... steel plates looked crazy purple color as if they soaked up alot of heat. Friction plates were in spec and so were the steel plates... although one thing bothered me... all my friction plates were bone dry no oil on them. even tho I had slightly overfilled oil.

So decided to just replace both steel plates and friction plates. One thing I noticed, EBC's friction plates have no numbers or any form of identification on them at all. So I installed all the regular ones alternating between friction and steel plates. untill the end where i installed the smaller one on the smaller notch.

while doing this I also did another mod to my clutch. The arm that pulls the clutch. redrilled and tapped it and extended the arm 3/4in giving more leverage and making my clutch pull feel like butter.

After all this, second comes up third comes up and i'm happy :D

I'll probably be doing my plates soon.. i did them on my dirtbike and it was pretty easy. Lets see some pics of the mod you did!

kinda hard to see with the fairing on.. but there is a artical on it at stuntlife.. lemme get the link for ya

http://www.stuntlife.com/forums/2-st...t=moose+clutch

what this does is by extending the pivot arm for the clutch it makes the pull easier and less effort allowing you to do clutch wheelies a bit more often.

there are 2 ways you can extend your arm by welding... which only allows for a small increase or you can do this method which allows you to add a little over 3/4 of an inch to the arm.

I'll try to take a picture of mine if i can so you can see

:D

This would bother me also. A lot. I would try to find a reason for this.
Otherwise, it could happen' again... And who knows what else...

very true!! I'll check next oil change which is around 4000 miles. so far tho clutch is biting really hard!! I'm surprised how easy it is to pull up second with a simple clutch pop now :D
