Clunky shifting, important to fix?
 

My 2004 F4i has only 4,000 miles on it, but the clunky shifting has me worried.
I understand that it's a fairly common issue with the F4i's, but how important is it to get it fixed? I've ridden other bikes, and the F4i is by far the worst when it comes to shifting. Almost every shift I make feels bad and I don't have the tools to repair it myself so having a shop repair it looks like it's going to cost 250 bucks + parts.

Of course, it might just make sense to spend the 250 bucks on an impact gun, air compressor, torque wrench and micrometer.

Eitherway, how important is it to get this fixed? Will the clunky shifting damage other parts or is it just an annoyance? Is there a method to shifting on an F4i that I'm not aware of which might help?

Here's a thread by Thirdgenlxi: LINK. You could try switching oils also. When I switched from Castrol mineral to Rotella synthetic there was a noticeable difference. Another thing to consider is that at 4K miles, your transmission may not be fully broken in yet.

I read that article and the full one on the other site but I noticed he used some tools that I don't have like an impact wrench, a torque wrench and a micrometer.
I'm honestly not sure what type of oil is in it currently but I definatly am going to switch to Rotella at 8k

Just change the oil and the problem will probably go away. I'd suggest changing your oil every 2500-3000 miles definitely would'nt wait till 8k to change it.
