Cleaning the radiator
Hey guys, while i clean my bike it always bothers me how there is a streak of grime and whatever else comes off the road onto my radiator. I really want to clean it and am wondering what the best way is without bending any of the fins. The fins seem to be intact, it is just dirty. Maybe i can get a picture up later this week but do you guys know what i mean? How do you guys clean it?

You can't keep everything clean and still have a ridable bike. Show bikes stay clean... And are never ridden. Low pressure water hose to make sure air flow isn't restricted by major gunk and just go.
Motorcycles are bad for OCD. |
I regularly spray WD40 all over my rad once a week. This helps keep the crap build up from setting hard and it seems work as a routine. It also guards against corrosion.
Next time you have reason to take the rad off you can lay it down and let some engine cleaner soak into it and then blast it out with a pressure washer turned down to it's lowest setting , a normal hose or even an airline. It's no big deal having a bit of dirt in there. It doesn't effect the cooling unless you live in a dessert. |
I would use a pressure washer at a car wash. Just be sure you're far enough away that you're not bending it. If there's grim that you can't get that way, work those areas by hand with a soft scrub brush to break it loose.

Soft bristle brush and detergent. I personally wouldn't use a pressure washer...
