chain and sprocket?

I bought an 01 f4i this year. It was wrecked by some guy doing a wheelie(bad for him good for me).
I have been rebuilding it and I have it all back together.

But when I bought it he said he did a 520 conversion but my chain looks a lot thinner then my friends gsxr600 who does have the 520.
The chain on mine is gold and the rear sprocket is 46 tooth and aluminum.

Anybody know how I can tell if its a 520? I figure the chain and sprocket are not stock just not sure if it is the conversion. Also this may seem stupid but what is the stock teeth for front and rear?

Stock sprocket teeth are 16 front, 46 rear.

it might be printed on one of the links. mine is a RK gold 520 and it has it etched on a few of the links. but the chain i replaced that was on the bike when i bought it didnt have any markings on it that i could find, but your's might its worth a shot.

If it's a 520 chain, there will be a few 520 markings on the links. Take a close look. Also the 520 will wear out faster...

its definitely written on the links, grab some paper towel and clean off a few links it'll say

cool I'll check it out. what about the stock gearing?

DBEAU 06-08-2011 12:11 PM

Stock gearing is 16/46. Common changes to gearing are 15/46, 15/48, 16,48. It's worth exploring different combinations to find out what you like. For what it's worth, I've tried several different gear ratios and went back to stock.

I don't mean to jack this thread, but since the subject was brought up I felt it better to ask here instead of making a new thread.

I just ordered a new RK 520 chain/sprocket kit with 15/46 gearing. About how much do you all think my speedo will be off? I know they're not precise even with factory gears, so if anyone has ran this gearing before and actually checked to see how much it's off I would like to know.

Also thinking about getting a speedo. calibrator. I found SpeedoHealer & SpeedoDRD. For those of you that have used a calibrator, which is better or are they about the same or is there another one that would be better to use?

ok it is a 520 with the stock gearing. I found some good fronts with 15T but the rear is different.

I'm looking for a 48T but all I find is the aluminum ones. I can find plenty lower number steel ones but none above the stock 46. I did find an aluminum steel combo one for $80 which my friend said is well worth it but I don't know about spending that much.

Here is a 48t steel rear -- Superlite Black 520 Conversion Steel Rear Sprocket - HONDA - Sprocket Center
