Chain question

Well my chain and sprockets are still good but they're red and aren't going to match my build. I want something nuetral or something that will match my white/gray color scheme. I'm going to have blue accent lighting so i MAY use blue but probably not. Also would like to keep stock gearing. Show me what you guys know about custom sprockets!

RK gold with sunstar sprocks , get the kit , ... gold looks great with most schemes...JMO...sincerally , the most interesting guy in the world........

How are sprockets colored? Could they be powdercoated?

cman9toes 10-26-2010 06:39 PM

Painted, powder coated, anodized... any of the above. I would say powder coat, but the teeth should prob be kept free and clean of powder

also, if I sell the set I have on it as a used set in good condition what would you guys say it's worth?

jp_greenville13 10-26-2010 06:43 PM

Hmm. I think a white sprocket with a black rear wheel would look pretty sick. Maybe I should dip the teeth in plasti dip or something before I get them coated? Anyone else have any experiance with this?

Anyone?

How does that stuff work and where do you get it?

Not to thread jack but I was thinking of maybe getting my wheels redone with a polished lip. Having a sprocket done too might not be a bad idea either while I'm at it.

If you are going to powder coat, then the shop should be able to use a release agent on the sprocket to protect the teeth.

vortex makes sprockets in a bunch of colors. these are all 520s

and i feel like anodizing would be your best bet for a sprocket. only adds 1-3 thousandths of an inch i believe

cman9toes 10-29-2010 05:59 PM

I don't think white is a color option for anodizing??? maybe

Powder coat is the best option, can't do white i googled it. I think a white gloss powder would pop out like crazy. I say go for it. I want to do mine orange with orange rims and blue rear sets. (I'm a Gator fan).

I used to paintball and anodizing was the main method used for coloring the guns and parts and Ive seen plenty of white ones that were supposedly anodized white so ive always been under the impression you could dye a part in any color. Youre question made me curious though and after some quick looking around it appears white hasnt been an ano option until just recently and its still a complicated process. So I guess ive been mistaken this whole time.

if anybodys interested in some light reading on it

cman9toes 11-01-2010 10:19 PM

Ya it takes a secondary process, which basicly amounts to a powder coat

skoobydoobie 11-04-2010 04:39 PM

Dont worry bout coating the teeth, after a few miles the chain will take off any excess coating.

cman9toes 11-04-2010 04:45 PM

skooby, how goes it? How is the jacket holding up?

Have you had a powder coated sprocket before?

jp_greenville13 11-04-2010 07:45 PM

I figured the chain would take off any extra but at the same time I'm not sure I want it in my chain ya know? What you think?
