I just installed a new OEM CCTL on Tuesday. It wasn't super easy but we found the tools we needed and eventually got the old one out and the new one in. I cannot tell you how different my bike feels now. I'm not embarrasses of the buzzing and therefore keeping the RPM above or below. It really had made a difference in making my bike just that much more enjoyable. I highly recommend it, it is worth the money and a little elbow grease.

By the way, not sure if you guys know the answer to this, but the old CCTL had one blue dot on it and the new has two green dots. I am assuming this is how Honda differentiates between the original revision and the new that is supposed to last longer?

You mention embarrassing. The awful rattle is obviously noticeable by the rider, even at speed. And showing off the bike to a friend and revving it up, it would be noticeable.

What I've always wondered and can't confirm is if a passerby can hear it. Say someone on the sidewalk as you ride by around 5k rpm, or a friend riding next to you?

If this is the case, I'm going to replace it again, I've been meaning to. In my opinion, riding around on a rattling can is embarrassing.

It's no fun having to explain what that rattling noise was when you're with people.

Also, I think the blue/green dots are indicators of revision.

correct- the green dots are to indicate the updated version.

Well my cctl has finally had it. Time for a new one. 60 miles into a long ride the rattle began at 6k rpms. Anything lower, no noise. I guess I am going CCTL shopping tomorrow.

Quick question on the installation and the stopper tool. Once you install the OEM CCTL, all you have to do is slightly turn the stopper tool, and pull it out?

None of the motorcycle parts stores in Cincinnati had the part in stock. I have to wait now until Thursday to put my bike back together. That bottom bolt is a real beotch to get out. I have to go buy a 45 degree attachment for my ratchet to get it off.

It's been a while since I replaced mine but you just pull out the stopper tool. I'm not sure about turning it but whatever you have to do just pull it out lol. Sorry if this isn't very helpful.
