CCTL - TDC or not TDC?

Hi Fellas,

My new CCTL and Gasket have arrived and I'm considering doing the work myself thanks to the CRBForum and BARF.

My only real question is regarding TDC. Does this matter? I've heard many have successfully done the swap without worrying about TDC and havent had any issues since but I did read one post where a guy didnt set TDC and had the same rattle at 9k instead of 5k. This was back in 06 and he never replied to whether this was the issue or not but it was enough to worry me.

Should I set the #1 piston to TDC and if so what would be the easiest procedure to accomplish this?

Thanks

Mitch

I didn't, and the noise is gone and she still runs good. Point being to set tdc is so that your not popping your cctl in at a tight point in the chain. My fix, put the cctl in, and crank the engine over a few times manually with a wrench.

Wouldn't the automatic tensioner compensate for slack once the motor started anyway?

well how I understand it.. it keeps it at a constant tension when its in. But when you pull it, and reinstall. It could bind the chain, so when you start.. she jumps.
