CCT came loose while riding
 

This is a tale of tragedy stupidity and impatience.
-Background I am a 23 year old with little mechanical experience, with limited tools and space. I do oil changes, change brakes, and that's about it.

I had bought my F4I about two months ago, and when riding I noticed a certain noise. It only would appear while in gear, and at 5.5-6.5k RPM. Which was annoying especially when on the highway in top gear. But above or below it sounded just fine and no performance issues at all.

-Install
I went with the lazy way to install a cct using this method where you use a 45 degree attachment with allan keys and sockets. Everything went to plan except for tightening the locknut

-Problems
For whatever reason I disregarded the term locktite. It didn't even register in my head. One, because I never heard of it before. Two, I guess I assumed I read it as "tightening the bolt" and never thought it of anything.
In the tight amount of space to install(lazyway) I have no idea how anyone can fit a 14mm wrench and tighten up the locknut of the cct. I would mange to get a 1/8 turn here and there after hand tightening it.

-Pre Incident
I rode my bike to test and see if the sound went away. It had not. I had tried researching the issue, but all I would get is people mentioning ccts, valve clearance, or it is normal and its just Honda's vibration and hitting a certain frequency. I decided what the heck its fine, and didn't peruse that issue.
I rode my F4I about 3 or 4 times at this point.

-Incident
It was nice out and decided to go for a short ride. no more than 30 minutes.
I was on my way home and on an highway exit to head home when I heard a terrible clatter. The CCT had become loose and I was really close to my house, so i said screw it and rode no more than 5 minutes to get back home.

I tried re adjusting the cct and seeing if I got lucky and the cam chain survived being loose, but after starting it up there is a new clattering sound that ive never heard before.

Now I am at a crossroads. One, I don't have any knowledge on rebuilds or have the tools for that matter. So I wouldn't know where to begin diagnosing the new problem. Two I don't think I can afford to take it to a shop right now/they wont look at it till winter.

TLDR:

CCT came loose, probably caused damage because bike doesnt sound good. Im sad/frustrated because spring is here and I could be riding so this is just a rant.

Only thing I can think is draining your oil and opening up your clutch cover and you can at least see the bottom 1/4 of your cam chain and see what condition it is in. You can then rotate it until you see the whole thing. Once you take the clutch cover off though you will have to put new sealant on when you put it back on.

If your manual tensioner is in now, were you able to tighten the bolt up to feel the resistance? before backing off?

Do you mean when I originally installed it? or after it got loose when riding?
Because yes I was able to tighten it up and back it off 3/4 turn before and after.

Now The bike sounds fine again. But I am still worried that I may have caused damage during that loose cct ride. (it was about 5 minutes of ride time).

Anything I should do? or do you think it is okay to properly install the cct and give it a go?

You're issue would be if you caused to to slap around whilst riding those last 5 minutes.

If you adjusted your timing, it will depend on by how much as to the potential for how much damage you might have caused.

Only way to tell will be a chain inspection per the previous poster, but at least it sounds like you've gotten it running smoothly again.

Personally, I'd be using this as an excuse to tear everything down and do valve clearances. That'll give you the ability to inspect the chain and gears better to be sure. You don't want to mess around with this.
