CBR600F Sport for 6ft rider?
 

Hi all,

I'm very tempted to purchase a really tidy looking bike as per the title - 2001 model with just under 30k on the clock. The bike is over 200 miles from where I'm located in the west of Scotland and if it really is as good as it looks I would definitely make an offer. The only issue is that I have never sat on one to feel how well I fit. I'm 6ft tall and although not traditionally "fat" I am a fairly bulky boy :p! I've ridden a 1990 ZZR600 and found it quite comfortable but I believe it's a bit more of an upright position compared to the FS, so I dont know how different/comfortable/cramped it would be.

I'm 26 if that is a factor in determining flexibility lol - but any opinions welcome. The last thing I want is to be incredibly cramped feeling and or looking like a giant on a mini moto.

I'm 51, 6' and have successfully kept anorexia at bay most of my adulthood. I have a 98 and it fits me just fine. I'm more tall from the waist up, I only have a 30" inseam.
If you get it and find it to be too aggressive you can get bar risers or make a few other modifications to better suit you.

Im 6'1" and have no problems on mine. Its not like the 600RR where you end up all hunched up like a demented contortionist.

This is good to know, thanks guys. Also, how easy is it to fit a centrestand to the sport? One of the "sport" features is that it doesnt come with a centre stand but i would find it really useful!

I can only speak to the f3. The frame is prepped for a center stand but that model wasn't offered with a center stand in the U.S. so finding one is tough in the States.

I bought an 01 F4i (which is the F Sport in the UK i believe) in Jan, I'm 185cm tall - roughly 6ft and it fits quite nicely. Plenty of room to move around on it. As others have pointed out it does already have the needed attachment points for a centre stand - but tbh i'd just get a rear/front paddock stand for working on it and to save weight (something like the Oxford premium front/rear from the visor shop https://www.thevisorshop.com/en/Oxfo...7/m-15159.aspx https://www.thevisorshop.com/en/Oxfo...7/m-15158.aspx)

I'm having a lot of fun on mine, I've had a few 'bigger' bikes GSXR 750 WP/VTR 1000 Firestorm and the F4i punches well above its weight especially in fun factor, it probably wouldn't keep up with some newer 600's but it's a decent sized bike so you feel that you've got something between your legs! Stick some tank grips on it - that'll take some of the weight of your wrists, i put some on a couple of weeks ago and they're incredible.

I'd say go get it and have a great spring/summer on it!

Thanks for all the insight, it is greatly appreciated! :D I am going to give the dealer a call today and get some more info. Reading reviews it seems that the main things to check are for cam chain rattle and to make sure the valve clearance has been checked at the 16,000 mile mark. If the valve clearance hasn't been carried out, would it be best to avoid or easy enough to have checked after buying (or too much of a risk?). Any other things to look out for on these?

I'd say a quick google of the dealer to see what people say about them, check the service history, check it has a clear title and isn't hasn't been an insurance write off, check the head/wheel bearings and the 'usual' - tyre wear, chain sprockets etc. . Take it out for a good test ride, see how it handles, check 1st/2nd/3rd gear hard acceleration see if it jumps into neutral.

As for the CCTL/valve clearances/other things to look out for - i'm sure some of the experienced forum members will be able to give you some sage advice (as I'm a newbie F4i owner)
