Carbon Fibre vs. Carbon Kevlar

RE: Carbon Fibre vs. Carbon Kevlar
for fairings, i would say carbon/kevlar would be the better material. carbon fiber by itself is prone to shattering on impact. kevlar is much more flexible. they use the stuff in everything. bullet proof vests, hoses, friction materials (clutches, brake pads), etc.

cabon/kevlar is cheaper, its about $10 less a yard then pure cabon fiber. carbon kevlar is also heavier than pure carbon fiber and isnt as strong butits more flexible. you use the same resin for both materials epoxy resin. if you lay ur bike down basically both are gonna do the same thing they will mostly crack or just grind away. but you be surprised on how strong and flexible one layer on carbon fiber is. both are suitable for fairngs but pure carbon will be lighter and thats what companies use for there aftermarket fairings.

carbon kev is also much harder to layup and work with. the kevlar makes it very difficult to cut.
the problem is, no one has any cf or ck for consumers. there's still a worldwide shortage...

it's even worse for the DIY CF fabricator. most of the sources i've used have been out of any usable sized fabrics/qualities for a long time now. Alot of people have made the switch to S-glass...
