Cam Chain Tensioner

I think I can hear the cam chain on my bike and I'm not 100% sure on how to tighen it. My bike has about 18K miles on it so its probably about time to tighten it up. Can anyone give a description on how to tighten it? How long will the cam chain last in the F4i with not too hard of riding but definitely not going easy on it? Thanks.

If it is the stock tensioner it can't be tightened. It is an automatic tensioner. This is a very common issue with F4i's. Check out the "CCTL Thread" at the top of the "F4i-Main Forum" page.

actually it can be tightened.. I havent tried it yet but when I get some money im going to tighten it and do spark plugs, air filter and clean air box mod.. here is a video of how to fix it.. it seems like it should work as long as you do it every year
YouTube - How to fix that scary noise on your CBR bullet bike

also there is a cheap mod someone came up with here that seems to work but it requires having a good one

and some say that you can put the bike in gear and pull it backwards and this turns over the engine and creates slack in the cam chain and allows the tensioner rod to drop down to the next bracket.. idk if that works or how easy it is to do though
