Buying a CBR600F4i
#2
From what I've read on the forum, because I myself am a new owner, that many mile is not a big issue. What is the issue is if the owner(s) before you took care of the bike and changed the oil regularly and kept up with all the maintenance.
I do believe that the 2000 model is the F4, not the F4i. I think the major difference is the F4i is fuel injected and the F4 is not. There have also been some design changes, but I don't know too much of what they are.
As for the bike itself, what is the price and overall condition of the bike?
Do you have experience riding sport bikes?

To me, that price is a bit high, but without looking at it, it is really hard to say. When you take a look at it, make sure you check everything out and if there are things you are wondering what to look for, google something to the effect of "what to look for when buying a used motorcycle" and you'll find a whole lot of good info on what to look out for. If the bike is in excellent condition and maybe some new tires, I would buy it for like 2500.00, but that is just me.
Make sure you look at the forks as the seals are common for the F4 and F4i to need replacements. Also, measure the asking price by what upgrades if any. Ask a lot of questions too.

unless the bike is totally immaculate i'd say 3k is a tad much for an F4 with those miles
if you can get a test ride, go for it and see how it runs
don't just blast around on it...ride mostly in the midrange where you'd generally ride and hit redline once or twice just to make sure all is up and up
tell them you want the bike cold when you get there, if it has cranking problems that's when they'll surface
otherwise just listen for any odd engine noises and look over the frame, swing arm, forks etc for damage possibly related to any crash or drop

Well, bikes don't lose value over time as fast as cars, but it is a 9 year old bike.
What is your city, state location. I'm sure you can find a good deal, you may just have to do some hardcore searching. I lucked up when I found my bike, but I paid like 500.00 more that what I wanted to.
I got a 2004 F4i and it had 2188 miles on it when I got it. New paint job, new rear tire, new Jardain slip-on exhaust. It cost me 4150.00. From what I now know after experiencing a fall, I do believe that my bike went down before, it just may not have been a really bad low side. Probably a drop. I only think this because my left mirror was not stock (also, compared to the right, the left mirror just looked newer), the VID sticker has scratches on it and the shop owner repainted the bike. He said it was due to paint fading from being in the sun too much, but everyone lies.
Still take a look at it, but its always a good idea to have an open mind about spending that kind of money on a bike.

There is a sticky on here all about buying used bikes. 3Gs is too much, and Snake is right, '00 is an F4, the F4i came out in '01. The i indicates "fuel injected", thats the only major change besides the "nanner" seat. The milage isnt as important as the maintenance done on it, theres a guy on here with over 100,000 miles on his bike. And plan on spending another 2 - 5 hundo for maintenance (oil chage, plugs, chain AND sprockets, brakes, tires, ect.), that way you KNOW when it was done. FYI, I paid half the asking price for my '01 F4i, with 22K but it has a salvage title (due to an unclaimed affidavit). Got it at a police auction, and coulda got it for 1100 but had to keep out bidding the original owner.
