So I broke my gear shifter and I was hoping someone could tell me if its easy to get off because I was looking at it and it was looking like it would take special tools that I most likely would not have. I would hate to have to take it all the way to a dealer to have it replaced so any help would be great! Thanks

here is a link to a site that has the entire service manual on it. Download it and read up how to remove and replace your shifter. The manual will tell you how completely dissassemble and reassemble your bike. Good luck.

 

no special tools needed. just basic wrenches and hex keys.

I broke my gear shifter too first time i got on my bike after i got it....i was walking it and came up on the concrete from the grass wrong and it tipped over and happened to hit right on the shifter and broke it...i didnt know anything about bikes but i managed to replace it using those basic tools....the replacementOEM shifter is about $70...and doesn't inlcude that black thing! so save it! haha

 

haha, ya i have broken mine to- tryied bending it back and the head snaped off. just replaced the gear shifter and brake with some pretty trick carbon look ones off ebay. prolly took about half hour or less to do both. easy fix.

 

Lesson #1 after an accident: SAVE ALL THE PEICES.

 

dont suppose you have the parts of it still ??!! i just had my rear sets powdercoated and the coater tried to get the rubber part your foot hits to shift off ......he used heat and melted it....
