I really like ATE Superblue fluid. It is DOT4 with good boiling points and it makes it easy to tell when you have the new stuff in since it is blue.

Yes that is correct. 3 and 4 are not compatible. 5.1 is synthetic 4.

I got dot 4 and am going to snag some o2 tubing from the ambulance next time i am down there. I am told that size tubing is perfect for it.

Just remember to wear rubber gloves when handling brake fluid.

3, 4, and 5.1are generally compatible, and I'm pretty sure all brake fluid is synthetic. DOT 5 is the silicone based one that is not cross compatible with the others. I don't recommend mixing DOT3,4,5.1 just because I like having all of the same type, but it won't cause any major problems like mixing with DOT5 would.

i could have sworn i just answered a question like this. Yes its dot 4. Dot 4 is reverse compatible with dot 3 but not the other way around. If you have a dot 3 system you can use dot4 if you have a dot 4 system you CAN NOT use dot 3. But our bikes are DOt 4 so this is all irrelevant. Just get the small bottle it will fill front and rear multiple times.

dont use dot 3 period if you do any hard riding.. it doesnt have a high enough boiling point and will warp your rotors and mess up the calipers

but yes as it was said they are not reverse compatible , so it doesnt really matter anyway lol

I recently learned of a great way to bleed brakes. Works better than anything I've tried.

Forget the speed bleeders. Go on e-bay and find a large medical/industrial syringeabout 60 ml will work. They're cheap so buy several. Put a clear hose on the syringe about six inches long and draw all of the fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir and discard it. Fill the syringe with fresh fluid, open the bleeder valve and force the fluid back into the reservoir from the caliper end. Repeat as necessary.

This works so well that it really changes the feel of the brakes and a hydraulic clutch, if you have a bike with one of those. (Not on the CBR, but my Aprilia has one.) Here in Florida, brake fluid loads up with moisture and has to be flushed at least once a year.
