Bought another f4i.... but something is weird.
 

Hi guys, I bought another f4i today as a project f4i. I started it up and i don't know why but the idle perpetually gets higher i only let it rev til 3 grand before i shut it off because it was 4am. i am leaving today and putting it into storage. Now. Is this normal for it to idle high when cold? Because my current F4i doesnt. Also this new f4i feels a bit different. Do you think maybe the throttle bodies may be sticking causing it to idle high randomly?

Bottom like i guess is does your f4i when cold idle more then 2000rpm?

my bike does that too somewhat. I think the computer keeps it in high idle mode until the temperature gets to around 100 or so. After 100, my bike settles down. Play around with the throttle adjustment knob until it warms up.check back...

chech your manual idle control.. knob on left side under fairing.. turn it down a bit ( counterclockwise)

mine will idle up to 3k when cold, before settling at 1200. you should make final idle adjustments after its warmed up to normal temp.

What is normal temperature RPM? 1200?

owners manual says 1300 rpm+ or - 100. normal run temp over 175.

okay here is the next question then why does my current bike not idle high when cold they both are the same year! Mine starts up and idles as if warm. And how do I fix it

Does the new one have pcIII. idle is controled by computer.

the new one does not have a PC3 my current one does but. does the pc3 control idle at all?

my bike is currently in storage i guess i will try not to worry about it and work on it later. Can you check if the PC3 effects the idle?

I had the same problem with my 04 F4i. Im sure when it was brand new it idled at around 2300 when cold and would settle down by the time the temp reached 40 deg (Centigrade).
It now has 25,000kms and the idle is now at 3000 rpm and it doesnt drop till temp gets to 45.

I had a closer look at the cold idle circuit and the only item I see that increases the idle is the mechanical device with two water pipes attached to it. My theory is that the water residue builds up around the temp control spring (assumed its a thermal spring) inside the device and it takes longer and longer for it to react.

Device: When you lift the tank locate the idle cable where it connects to the TB's. Right next to that connection is the cold idle unit I described above. My plan for one weekend (i dont seem to find the time) is to take the unit out and give it a good clean. The other alternative is to play with the adjustment screw on top of the device. But that would be the last resort.

Mine revs when cold until it reaches op temp. Are you saying your current ride doesn't increase the idle at all when it's cold out?

no, it drops back to normal idle once its 50 deg C. just it seems to take longer then previously, and revs higher then previously.

Yes it doesnt increase idle! always the same!
