bike suspension method
so, i need to remove my forks but i'm not sure what the best method is for supporting the front of the bike. i did it before by strapping ratchet straps to the frame and hanging it from eye hooks on the ceiling of my carport but it was only for about half an hr and this time it will be possibly a few days while the forks get reconditioned. I don't really want to leave it outside hanging from the ceiling because of all the drunk stupid **** small peckered frat boys that party in the parking lot behind my house. any other decent methods?

I would say that having a stand would be best here too. Do you have a garage to leave your bike in while it is disassembled? I wouldn't leave your motorcycle out in the open while it is disassembled because if it falls or something happens to it, you'll have a difficult time picking it up, but more so with possibly really damaging your bike.

i use my living room as a garage lol. college kid housing doesn't usually have a garage. the strap method is actually really stable but yea you're right about it not being a good idea to leave it there. i haven't come across any stands that support the bike somewhere other than the forks so if you could give me a source or a place to look that would be sweet.

Also T-Rex stands:

You'll need a front with triple tree from whoever you buy the stands from. Almost all stand vendors recommend you buy a rear as well. I have never tried to use the front stand alone, but from what I have seen, it would be really difficult to get it up without a rear stand for stability.

oof. those are really nice but they're expensive. I'm not made of benjamins at the moment.

Are you just removing the tubes or taking off the whole front end? If you're just removing the individual fork tubes then a triple stand would work but if you want to do anything more than that like changing bearings or triple clamp work then then hang by the frame idea is the way to go. I hung mine by the frame with some straps for months while I did various upgrades. I used an engine hoist like you use to install/remove engine&trans in and out of a car with. Maybe you could borrow one and roll it into your living room.

I dont have stands, ive hung it from the triple trees before with straps. You need to find a different place if you are gonna take off the forks. Dont worry about the straps holding, just make sure that they are not going to be rubbing against anything sharp. It will hang there forever as long as its not, dont worry..
