Bike keeps dying I need serious help.
My bike is pissing me off today, Left me stranded twice, Im glad I was riding with someone. We were out riding having a great time and stop to grab a drink (92 degrees here in michigan, we arent used to that) but go to get back on and it wont start or roll over. So I push started it and it starts then one minute later it dies. Then it wont start up even with a push start, so I think its the battery because I our bikes dont run unless we have a good battery. I go and buy a new battery and it fires right up YAY! then on my way to work it dies again. Another couple push starts and nothing, completely dead. So Im thinking its the rectifier/regulator. What do you guys think? Oh and its a 2000 F4, I thought I could get better answers here in the F4i section. And if anyone has one let me know how much. Thanks

huh... well at least you dont have a fuel pump to start before the bike fires up. With the bike started, see if the battery voltage goes to like 14V (you need a voltmeter for this). If this doesnt happen, its either the rectifier/regulator or the ... sorry to say... alternator.

my bike wouldn't start today too after a long ride in the heat! i had battery problems before, but i thought it was cuz of a cheap battery. but when i jump started the bike, it stayed on and didn't shut off. since i started having those battery problems before, i never leave the bike on when the engine is off

don't jump start the battery with a car. also it could still be the battery even though its new. if it wasnt properly charged up right it won't last. i went thru 3 batteries in a month. the 3rd was under warranty and had honda charge it for me before i came to pick it up. running fine since. still could be your battery.

bikes are ok to jump start with car batteries as long as the vehicle isnt running.
and yes it sounds like the typical reg/rec issue.. if ya dont believe me check the f1,f2,f3,f4,900rr..etc sections and you will find other people who have had the same problems.

Yea Havoc I just seen that you gave some insight on the other section about what seems to be the same thing. I am actually going to be selling this bike and tomorrow Im going to be picking up a 2002 954, so hopefully its something small like a reg/rect. Thanks

RE: Bike keeps dying I need serious help.
I had a very similair problem and it turned out to be the regulator.
What was happening was that in mid to high RPM the battery wasn't charging so my bike would sputter and crap out after riding for about 15 minutes.
If you have a volt meter you could check the voltage with your engine running, then rev the bike up to high RPM and see if the voltage drops. I think it should be 14V when the bike is running
