battery defective or still good
well before i took my bike apart i had a strange issue with the battery .one night i starter her up for a friend to hear her ,started no problem.the next morning late morning if it matters.went to start her and she would'nt start and sounded like the battery was dieing .so i connected my charger got her to fire up but had to hold the throttle at about 1000 rpms for awhile or it would shut down.so i took her for a ride 80 miles after that she started every time no problem .so i took her apart to do some repairs put the battery my charger for about 2 hours and i checked the voltage on the battery and got 13.1 volts and dont know if thats ok cause when ever i checked car batterys in the past they would be around 12.6 volts.so is this good or defective?

Should be fine, but most auto supplys will load test a battery for free, if you want real pieace of mind.
If the problem persists, you should check the regulator/rectifier and it's connector.
Honda went with a bad design and there is a lot of failure due to that. Since the r/r
controls both charging and voltage levels, in addition to converting AC current (from the
stator) > DC (for the bike's systems to use), failure can causes a whole range of issues.
If you see any sign of heat-related damage to the connector or the r/r itself, it might
need to be changed. Look for burnt/warped/melted plastic, burnt pins on the connector,
damaged wires leading to the connector and/or r/r.
Hope this helps, Ern
