if you want to get into modding... then:

mount a toggle switch somewhere (the black plastic covers work great that are on the side). i dont know the technical term, i call them the air duct covers. now, find the temp fan switch. jump it with the switch.

switch off : fan runs as normal. it kicks on at 220* and off when normal.
switch on: fan runs all the time (while bike key is in the on position). this allows you to run the fan in traffic, city, or on hot days to keep it down around 185*.

i would post more info, but im doing this mod this weekend. I did the same thing to my car and worked like a champ. Now, i just need to find the temp fan switch (easy as cake to find on a civic lol).

i looked up the temp switch, it looks like its mounted in the left side of the radiator (as sitting on the bike). im going to take the plastics off this weekend and see what i find out. hopefully ill have some pictures up. heck, it might just be easier to make a video tutorial.

 

i thought about that idea smoke. the problem i see with that is that the fan on the bike may not have been designed to run for prolonged periods of time and then if i burn up the only fan i have im sht out of luck. hence why i want to use this second fan from advanced auto. the only thing im worried about with it is wiring and what if the bikes charging system could handle it.

 

Why are these bikes running over the boiling point of water ? 212 F that is right ? I'm about to buy the 06 f4i. This has gotten me reconsidering the purchase. 229,230 F that's extreme, no reason for any motor vehicle that was kept in a good condition to run near the 200 in any type of weather. I now also have ZZR 6E. This bike runs very cool and in the 100F weather the fan kicks in at about 176. Still plenty of room before the boiling point. Can these digital temp readers give you faulty measurement display ?? At real 230 that block should be a toast imho that is ofcourse [8D]

 

philnyc, thats the way honda makes them. these bike are not meant to sit on the street and heat up to 230oF. its just what we push the bikes to do.

95camaro01f4i, my bike also goes up to 225 at 60oF weather. after a good 5minute ride and then coming to a red light I will easily hit 225. I understand your concern; so in this case you should get the second fan. I would hook it up in parallel with the original fan (+switch) or just connect it directly to the battery. however, I would place a fuse between the fan and battery, thats why I think it would make sense to connect the new fan to the old in parallel. good luck, and a spare fan for a piece of mind is priceless.

 

alright i took the platics off today to find out...

theres a temp sensor (one wire) that goes to the fan. theres also a 12v source going to the fan (always hot). when the sensor gets to the magic number it turns the fan on. my buddy is going to send me a wire diagram of the 06 to try and find the relay or temp switch.

as far as prolongue use of the fan:
the switch is meant to be used when sitting in traffic (or when i happen to cruise campus . with the switch "off" it will run the fan as normal (kicks on at 220* etc. I did this setup on my turbo civic and the fan was fine for the 3 years i had it setup like this. Im still trying to figure out the wiring aspects, and once i find a correct way of doing it ill post up an article.

 

I usually go when my bike registers a temperature (100 or so). I will just slowly glide away, wont get on it right away. It gets up to temperature quickly though, i have seen 225 on my bike at lights and in traffic and of course the fan kicks on. Normal riding temp is between 170 and 185ish give or take a few degrees. I got worried when i saw over 220 as well, but then read responses here and realzie its perfectly normal.
