NateDieselF4i 10-12-2010 03:31 PM

Sounds like a win-win then Cupcake! I vote you do it. Be pretty damn cool too.

Xander F4i 10-12-2010 04:34 PM

yes by all means...be the guinea pig!

Zero1080 10-12-2010 04:58 PM

I'd use them in tandem. But as a replacement I say go for it.

So the keypad will just be like turning your key to the "on" position? How about for turning it off? Or to lock your bike?

Xander F4i 10-13-2010 06:45 AM

Locking the steering is a good thong to be able to do

__Z__ 10-13-2010 07:44 AM

you guys do realize right that the steering lock is realllllllllllllllly easy to break

Kickstand or kill switch lol

Wow, that's a pretty cool little unit, and pretty cheap too! I don't know if I would replace the ignition on my bike with that, but my rock crawler on the other hand... :icon_pimp: :icon_goofygrin:

No no, that will stop the engine, however how do you turn the electrical systems off? Enter the code again?

Kuroshio 10-13-2010 06:13 PM

It'd work against a Brute Force Thief. Won't stop Pick Up Thieves. And is less effective than an alarm by itself, since it wouldn't stop a thief from sitting down and working on how to disable the keypad. Installed with an alarm (for shock / tilt sensors and siren) it'd likely be redundant since most cheap alarms come with starter kills.

Looks like a toy to me. But you're entitled to your toys :icon_shrug:

boredandstroked 10-14-2010 10:28 AM

Looks really cheap and likely to stop working quickly.

Just thought of this. Depending on how it wires into the ignition system it'd be easier to defeat than the key lock.

Most starter kills are just a relay in the path of a required wire, like the positive line of the fuel pump or the dc key on wire. So to disable the starter kill all you need to do is cut the wires leading to the alarm and join them together (which is why all my wiring is under the seat which can't be removed without tripping the alarm).

So if you removed the ignition key and put that in instead, you may have done most of the work for the thief already.

this is assuming I dont hide the device though...

Im not just going to leave it sitting on the triple for anyone to play with...

I think it would be pretty cool. Although it might get annoying, punching in a code to start up and shut down the bike every time.
