so like 98% of f4i owners after a time i started wanting a different tail,
its winter here now so after playing on photoshop i bit the bullet and ordered a 08 cbr1000rr tail it arrived today after 8 weeks, so iv had plenty of time to get my materials together and a plan in place but im prety much making it up as i go,
im using steel becuase it has to be very strong, i take my riding seriously and the last thing i need is to be worried my ass will fall into the tyre doing 200kmph

i think i might shorten the seat and reduce the angle a bit, thoughts??

Seems like a nice project, personally i wouldn't shorten it.

What exhaust are you running?

thanks thats 1 for not shortening, im just worried when i make the seat it will look long,
I made the exhaust using a jardine can that came on the bike

Just from the looks of it I would reduce the angle. It looks like you will always slide into the tank :icon_shrug:

Definitely, definitely reduce the angle unless you just dig that really high tail look.

bobobob 06-28-2011 09:17 AM

i agree also on the angle, dont want to actually slide against the tank everytime you hit the front brakes :)

Nice project. My vote is for shorter.

Also, consider having your seat/seat pad as perpendicular to the tank as possible. It will be more comfortable...plus, you'll be able to get off the tank easier for cornering. Whether that requires reducing the angle of the subframe is up to you. You might could increase the level of the front of the seat in some fashion to obtain this w/o reducing the angle of the subframe.

Looks like a good/interesting project! I also vote for going shorter on the seat area (left at full length, I think it looks a bit long). An added pro/con to shortening the tail is it gives the illusion of a stretched swingarm.

I personally like the slightly taller tails...though I'm 6'-7"

yeah my votes for reducing the angle a little bit as well. The area for the seat does look a little long but it doesnt look bad, how does it compare to the length of the stock f4i seat? If its a lot longer than maybe trim the end a little bit to shorten it otherwise just change the angle and it should look good.

Thanks for the input everyone, I'll definitely reduce the angle tonight, I think I'll shorten it by 1.5" I'll post up more pics when I get home I should finish the subframe tonight
