Default Accident on my F4i, things to look for?

Ok well last weekend, I go into an accident with my bike. A chick cut out in front of me coming the opposite way and couldn't do anything but eat it. The bike went sideways and the right side took the initial hit. I had all my gear on so came out fine, just a bruised up knee as it got sandwiched in the crash.

I found mostly everything thats wrong with it, a lot of cosmetic damage on the right, blinker, mirror, fairings, and the radiator took a beating and tore a huge hole in the main hose from the block to the radiator. O and also the gauge cluster doesn't turn on at all. Besides all that nothings bent broken off as far as pegs or peddles, it really didnt do any dragging on the ground. Really the worse part was the initial smack up against the other car. It does start and runs fine, no worse or better than b4.

Since I am new to motorcycles, and if insurance doesn't total it out. My biggest worry is the forks they look fine, and I got on and worked the suspension a bit but whats the best way to check. And as far as the cluster I'm thinking just a fuse or something. Just wanted to put this up, everyone seems pretty helpful and get some opinions. Thanx

Check the fuse first before buying a new gauge. I'm not suspension expert, and that easily my biggest area I don't know squat, but it seems like if they travel ok, and don't leak, then you should be in good shape?

Glad to see you're ok, and time to repaint! :P

Glad to hear that you're still in one piece, good riding!

For you suspension, your forks should still be fine if what you say is true. If it truly feels no different than before, than you should be fine. But just as a precaution, check the fork seals to make sure nothing ruptured on impact so it's not leaking liquid anywhere and hopefully the forks are all straight

thanx.. the msf class paid off in full. Yea everything seems to operate normally, I haven't been able to ride it though. If they were to leak it would be while compressing correct? I'll have someone work them and get down there and have a good look.

If they are leaking there will be oil on the forks after you compress them (you could do this yourself). And for the gauges if its not a fuse, check your connectors going to the gauges.
Glad your ok and ready to rebuild

I've heard the F4i sometimes has wire harness problems. It's possible that the impact jarred a connection loose or severed a wire somewhere. You might want to get a wiring diagram and check for continuity.

Pay attention to the front axle for fork alignment issues. If the forks got bent then most likely the front axle will not slide in easily.

thanx for all the pointers.. Everything looks to be in good order. I'll have my final verdict when I can ride it. Let's just see what the insurance wants to do. I'd like to keep it the damages aren't that bad, mostly cosmetic.
