8500K headlights killing my bike.
I was out riding with a buddy the other day and noticed my bike was acting alittle wierd. Ive had the eurodezigns 8500K headlights on my bike for quite some time now and never had a problem with them. Well the other day when i was riding i noticed my turn signals werent working. well sinse i ride with my brights on wherever i go, i turned them off for a quick second and then my turnsignals started to work again. I seem to believe that the headlights are killing my battery supply, and could this hurt the motor also? as in mess with ignition and all that kind of stuff. Im not to worried about my turnsignals not working but if it could potentially hurt the motor from a battery loss then, i would like to know.

as a general rule, it is unadvisable to simply replace factory bulbs with higher wattage bulbs. yes, they look good and put out more light -- but the wiring and electrical system fo any vehicle is designed to work properly with factory specs. some high-wattage bulbs can pull up to 8 times the current of the factory wattages, which can lead to overheated wires and relays, resulting in poor overall system performance or worse. but i doubt there's any risk to the motor -- the likely victims would be your headlight assembly, wiring harness, or battery.

aren't those the HID?
it won't hurt your motor but your battery will suffer if the draw is greater than 55W. now if they are just aftermarket bulbs, make sure the draw is no more than 55W or else you will fry your wiring harness. if you want to use it you'll need to change to heavier guage wire.

Ive been riding just with the low beams on lately, and the bike seems to be running better. I figure if i need to use the highbeam it will be only when i really need to. But i do recommend these headlights for anyone that doesnt have them because they are so freakin bright. thanks

if anyone is interested in bulbs - i can get just about any size/wattage of the HID-style shipped to your door for ~$15 a pair. my personal favorites are the Eurolite DP's (here's an example) which are rated at 55w.
if you really want a true HID system (like the beemers and mercs), they run about 400 bucks for an add-on system, but are way more efficient than factory bulbs, and look out of this world. the downside on a bike is all the extra wiring + transformers...
