Default 4000 mile check up

I was wondering if anybody knew what was involved in the 4000 mile checkup, I'm overdue and I cant get a straight answer from the stealership. If they want to charge me 250.00 for just checking all the nuts and bolts they can forget it. I wanted to take it to an independent shop and just have them inspect the bike. What do you guys/gals think?

Well, according to the service manual, the only thing they check is the idle speed, brake fluid, brake pads, clutch free play, and drive chain. The service manual doesn't even mention an oil change. These are really all things that you can probably handle yourself.

Hopefully others will chime in.

Don't waste your money. Change the oil yourself, keep the chain clean. When the bitch breaks, then fix it. Until then don't worry about it.

+2. I change the oil and filter myself, at the first 600 miles and @4000. My bike's at 7000 plus now, and ready for another oil and filter change. I'll probably clean out the air filter and spark plugs, too (carbon buildup). Clean and relube the chain. Check all other fliuds, especially coolant and brakes. Other than that, she still rides smooth as the first day I bought her! WOOHOO for F4i's!!!
