20w-50?

Is it okay to use in our bikes? It's Honda oil.

I have three options.
My brother has a new 1gallon 20w-50 Honda oil.
Or I can get vavoline 10w-40 for 4.29 per qt.
Or mobile1 10w-40 for 9.99 per qt.

All the oil is ment for motorcycles that I found at advanced. I would also be using a fram long filter. Is that okay?

So if I can't use my brothers oil. Is vavoline okay to use? I always use moblie1 in my cars but 9.99 a qt. Is too much.

20W50 is safe. I have it in my bike right now. Many people recommend it for hot climates because it doesn't turn as runny with the heat.

STAY AWAY from fram. They are the WORST filter you can get. (Besides those stainless steel reusable ones) The Honda oil should be fine (specially since its free), a lil thick, but should be fine. I get my stuff from wal-mart. Shell Rotella T in the blue jug NOT the white one $19, and a Super Tech filter # ST 7317 (it for a Civic) $2.95, it's a bit longer than stock, but that helps when you have to change it next time. The filter is actually the same exact as Bosch, and is way better than OEM, so is the oil (better than OEM).

I don't see it being a problem.

A lot of people use the Shell Rotella T synthetic 5W-40.

Since that oil is a little thicker, mix some with a lighter weight oil like the 10W- 40 or 5W-40.

Here is the oil link someone posted on this forum a while ago.

Oil and Filters

Supertech (Walmart) and Purolator is what I like to use.

That is what I used to think, until I went to the Ferrari factory in Bologna. I saw a few fram filter on their race cars. IMO, all filter will do the job as long as you replacement when required due to mileage.

Anyone else know if it's okay to use 20w-50?

Where do you live? If its not somewhere with constantly high temps, you'll prolly be causing unnecessary wear on first startup when its cooler.

To directly answer you question dependent on climate, I'd say it's fine. If you check the maintenance section of the service manual, it recommends 10W-40 but shows the heat ranges of 10W-30 to 20W-50 in a diagram.

Temp can drop pretty hard in Jersey. Below 20w-50's operating temps.
