I recently laid my bike over goin about 40 and scratched up my stator cover and now there is oil coming out of one of my bolt holes. I am going to buy a new one but has anyone ever changed their own before? I just wanna know if it's a job i can do myself or if i should take it to a mechanic. Any opinions?

 

the cover it self is easy. theres the outisde bolts. a screw holding the wire. and 4 bolts holding the stator im. easy day.

 

ok, thanks man. Jus wonderin, whats inside the cover? like ive taken my bike apart cosmetically like the fairings an stuff but i havent messed with any of that. i dont wanna take it apart an **** somethin up, ya know? lol

 

My Stator has a tiny scuff on it from dropping it the one and only time going 2 mph in a parking lot the first day...I've contemplated changing it..

I believe there is a gasket that you must buy and install perfectly flush as well..correct me if Im wrong but I heard its kind of a beoutch to get seated before you screw her down...

 

na its easy! yes theres a gasket in it. the stator itself is like a magnetic coil. so its ganna talk to good tug or two to get it off. once off take a good look on how easy it is to take apart n put together. there is a stud that needs to be transplanted into the new stator.
if you want i got to take mine off tomorrow night. ill take a few pics and write up if u want.

Yea no problem. Planned on doing it after work. Should b up around 630-730pm east time.

 

Dude just remove the bolts and pull it off. If you can't figure it out looking at it then theres no way you were able to remove fairings by yourself. Theres nothing to screw up, its a cover. Man up!!!

 

What was the cause of laying it down at 40mph anyways?


My cover is beat to hell (from various F-ups over the years) but doesnt leak a drip, and if aint broke i aint fixin it.

 

my bike slid out on me doing 30mph, since it just slid on the frame slider and stator cover it got a nice hole in it.. i guess it all depends on how the bike slides or lays down to how bad it gets messed up..
