Thanks again guys for the input. The coolant is the green Honda stuff, so nothing special going on there. Plus coolant temps have been exactly as expected, it's never been abnormally high or anything.
I grabbed some left over turbo heat wrap I had laying around and cut a section for the tank and another section to place over top of the ecu. It seems to actually help a bit. There will definitely be more tweaking with that stick-on heat shield tape too and hopefully that will take enough of the edge off the heat that it becomes more bearable.
After talking to a friend at work today who has an '07 RR, I guess he has the same issue.... but that bike has an under seat exhaust so it's probably a much worse situation. In that case I'd probably just wrap the exhaust, and am thinking about wrapping mine but too it'll probably have diminishing returns in my case.

Ive noticed mine getting hot from the day I got it.. not enough to burn your *** but at times it gets annoying. I think someone said above that you can buy some heat tape to put under your seat which should block it from heating up.. which was also my idea. But it all depends on where its coming from I guess. Could be the frame?
