The light is supposed to come on with the key. After the bike is started, it should go off within a few seconds. When it doesn't, it means the ECU picked up something out of its expected values. It the stores a code pointing to the system that the failure is in.
To retrieve the code, use a piece of wire or paperclip to jump the diagnostic connector under the seat. Turn the key on and count the flashes. Long flashes are 10s, short flashes are 1s. Two long the three short would be code 23.
If you download a service manual, it can explain what to do and what thing mean better than I.
Let us know what code come up.

It should be a connector that comes out of the harness that isn't plugged in to anything. The wires to it should be green and brown.

Ok Guys, Here is the verdict.. There seems to be a wire/connector that got corroded and melted because of high resistance/heat. That made the display go nuts and did not keep the ignition ON. Anyways, fixing the wire brought back life to my bike. This connector is buried under the gas tank. Wish there is a easy way to tell these kind of issues. The fix itself is quick, but the towing + diagnosis made it big in terms of cost and time.
Anyways, thanks for your help. Hope none of you guys run into the same problem, but if you do - make sure you check the connectors first.
Cheers,
