2001 F4i starts but wont keep rev and dies
Hi,
This evening, while coming home - my F4i died at full throttle. It just gave up power while in full throttle. After pulling over, I observed that all the lights in the dash board (indicators, red light, hig beam indicator etc) shows lit. I could not understand the problem. Anyways, I tried starting it and starts just fine. BUT, dies immediately as the rpm goes to 0 right away. It happened multiple times. Please suggest, thanks |
Maybe it is a battery issue??

Fuel pressure regulator?
Power commander? (if equipped) A little bit more information on what its doing would be helpful in narrowing it down. |

After it died, If I turn on the ignition - all lights, indicators in the display stays lit. When I try to start it, it starts fine but I had to rev the throttle to keep the rpm. As soon as I release the throttle, the rpm goes to zero and the engine stops. The bike had all fluids replaced + tire change (not relavent) + Cam chain tensioner replaced by Honda show room at about two months ago. thanks. |
Is the FI light on?

As soon as I turn on the battery (before starting the ignition) and stays like that even after the engine starts.
How do I read the code in the computer? thanks for your time, To retrieve the code, use a piece of wire or paperclip to jump the diagnostic connector under the seat. Turn the key on and count the flashes. Long flashes are 10s, short flashes are 1s. Two long the three short would be code 23. If you download a service manual, it can explain what to do and what thing mean better than I. Let us know what code come up. |
