Default 2001 F4i Starting Problems

Just got a 2001 F4i, i did a test drive, ran perfectly.

Got of the bike, started cleaning the fairings, no direct water, only a wet rag.

Done cleaning, try to go for a ride after that and no starting!!!

I can hear the fuel pump prime, bike will crank, but the engine won't start.......

Any ideas????

Not sure if mine is an F4i. It was first registered in July 2002 and has PGM FI on the front of the fairing. Regarding your bike not starting, I can only suggest it may be the battery, as when I went to look at my bike prior to buying it, the salesman couldn't get it started, even though it seemed to be spinning over enough to be able to start. After the mechanics charged the batttery it started first time and since I have now bought it, it starts ok. Hope you sort it!

Default F1 not F4i

I've just had a look at some photos of F4i bikes on the forum and believe that mine is not like them. I think my bike is an F1, which I believe was first produced in 2001? I'll have to find out exactly which model mine is as there are so many and it's a bit confusing!

Those "fairings" you have are the aftermarket ones, I'm not sure if they're retailer specific, but several of the "stock" looking sets have them right below the 'f4i' decal.

OP, do you hear the starter motor? Does it crank at all?

Yup, its cranking, it just wont start!!! i can hear the fuel pump priming, the engine moving....... everything, i even have spark, fuel on injectors

What about a relay??? i downloaded the service manual, read about a engine stop relay, a fuel relay, and a main fuse, also about a bank sensor in between the headlights, man this is driving me crazy, it was running perfectly, just cleaned it, tried to hop on it again and no ignition!!!!

I also have 8 blinks on the display, went to the manual and says it could be the TP sensor, but will that stop it from firing up????

I also read that it could be a faulty kill switch or ignition switch!!

Please help!!!!!

The F1's are from like 1988 to 91. Then it goes to F2 and so on. It might be the F4.

Default Which CBR is it?

Hi. Thanks for the info. I'm calling into my George Whites superbike showroom this week, so I'll ask them to identifiy the bike for me. I think you are correct in saying it is an F4i and I got confused by the PGM Fi on the fairing, supposing it to be an F1. It does say F1 on the purchase document I was given when I put a deposit down on the bike, but from what you have told me it can't be correct. My bike was registered in July '02. I'll get back to you and let you know how I get on.

The i on the F4i stands for injection for fuel injected instead of carbs. thats all the "i" stands for. post some pics

Since you are hearing the pump prime I am going to assume its a spark issue. Have to taken out the plugs to see if they are wet? I know they are a huge pain to get to but that is where I would start.
