Hello. Does anyone know what is mechanically different on the 2001 F4i motor that makes it put out more horsepower than the other years? Or if not mechanically different, is the computer tuned different? Can you do any modifications to 2002-newer F4i motor to make it put out the same horsepower "stock" - ie. without adding an exhaust, air filter, PCIII, etc., but by swapping out the computer or something? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have heard that the 01 has more power also. I've just never looked into if it was true or not, but I am interested.

axsys, I am not sure that the 01 has more power. However, I can tell you this. The 01, has a poor FI processor that cause the bike to have some hesitation when altering the press of the throttle. I know this because I read about it after I noticed it on my 01 F4i.
The 02 did had that FI problem, they tuned the computer and it had a bit more HP + no throttle delay. The only reference I can provide on this matter is www.bikez.com

Actually Honda tuned down the bikes after 01 because of the public flipping the bikes over to easily. I read that in an article. About the Honda Motorcycle Corp.

 

yellow and black has the most power mang....

 

for the 01 it says 4.8 fuel capacity i thought we had 3.8

 

If you look at the links submitted by alekinci this should tell you the answer to the down tuned F4i after 01. There is no real difference in the bikes as far a specs. Same bike. remember the HP and tourque readings are at the crank, divide that by about 15% and you have the rear wheel HP.
