Default 2001 F4i gauge issues?

Recently picked up an '01 F4i..and the gauge is very weird.

Does not display the odometer/ speedometer...but shows the tachometer just fine.

At the initial start-up....everything seems to be functioning.

I remember going slow at one point and the speedometer functioning..but stopped...

Any advices? or just take it to a shop

It's an electrical issue somewhere. First check where the harness plugs into the gauge - look for any bent pins, corrosion, etc.

You're most likely just gonna have to do a lot of searching around wires to find the culprit. A multimeter will probably help as well.

Does anything else display on the LCD? Does it light up?

Yes, most of the displays on the LCD appear and it does light up.

I'm still new to the bike so I wouldn't know where to start.

Is it best to just purchase a manual?

You can find the manual online for free.

It sounds like it's either a wiring problem, or a faulty sensor. Either way, it'll take some scrounging to find. Probably best to get the wiring diagram / manual for the F4i and start tracing things.

Thanks man.

I just went riding a bit more today.

Weird thing is...when I mashed a bit...the speedometer all of a sudden started showing up...

But then stopped showing after a couple of seconds..I'm guessing loose connection?

Also...I don't get why my bike rattles around 4000 rpms...but after that it's fine. LOL.

The rattle is the cam chain tensioner. Search the forum and you'll find tons of info on it.
