2001 CBR600 w. 39k miles for $3000
I checked out the bike a few times, it has a small dent in the gas tank and it has other small scratches on the body. Nothing major, it has two brothers exhaust and a few other minor modifications. Clean and free title. The bike has 39,000 miles and the buyer is asking $3000.
Includes jacket / helmet and gloves.
Is this a good deal ?

39,000 miles?! I think $2,000 to $2,500might be more like it if the bike is in good shape but with scratches and a dent in the tank maybe less than that. You could get one with5,000 milesthat hasobvious cosmetic damage and replace those parts with ebay items and spend less than $3,000. I think others will agree.

^ 39k isnt too many miles. providing these bikes are taken care of they'll last damn near forever. my F4i has 34k on it and all i've had to replace has been a speedo sensor at 18k (seems to be a common F4i problem). if the bike was well maintained, thats not alot of miles. just depends on the buyer though, i guess.
and i agree, talk him down lower than that!

tell him to keep his helmet and see if he'll go down any. i'm a big believer of not using other people's old helmets; you never know what they've gone though. i'd try to talk him down to ~2000-2200 for it.

I would try and talk him down some more regardless of the helmet deal. Ask about an in-depth history of the maintenance on the bike and see if there is a pattern of oil changes, brakes, liquids and other usual maintenance on that bikes have to go through. See if there is any gray area where you can say "now that would be a risk if I were to buy your bike" and then see how much lower he goes. Also, see if there is anything that has to be done now on the bike that could be a bargaining deal to help lower the price.
Otherwise, just as everyone else have said, keep looking for a better deal.

thanks for all the advice, i tried offering him $2500 and he said that he bought the bike for $3500 two months ago and changed oil and filter, changed coolant, new OEM front sprocket, new OEM rear sprocket, new OEM chain, recovered both seats with new foam and high quality no-slip vinyl. He said he could do $2900 w/o the helmet, jacket, gloves. Tires have 50% tread.
