Not all the time, but sometimes when I start from a dead stop, I hear a ratcheting sound that lasts about 1 second. Normal take off, not full throttle or anything, any ideas on what it could be? Bike only has 1,800 miles on it.

 

maybe valves need adjusted or slack in drive chain.. ever clean and oil the chain regularly? Rule of thumb is every 300-500 miles clean and oil chain. Did you have the dealer service work done?

 

Chain is clean & lubed. I bought the bike with 1400 miles on it, so I dont know for sure if the bike had its initial service or not. I thought maybe it was engine knock, so I went up to 89 octane, from 87, and I haven't heard the noise since, but I haven't ridden that much either.

 

yea i think mine does that sometimes too...but only when i let the clutch out too fast for the amount of throttle im giving it. i think its just the chain making that noise.

 

Could be the chain, but probably the octane. I know on my bike under the seat cowl it says run 91 octane min. I run 93, not much more money to fill a 5 gallon tank. I have ran the 87 b4 and had a valve ping until i put in the 93. No noise since. I'd reccomend using atleast 91 octane

 

06 cbr owners manual says anything over 86 octane is ok to run in the bike.

 

Probably changed with the newer bikes, mine is an 01'. Says it under seat cowl and in my manual. Lucky you, save a few cents anyway.
