Well now this is very true but there is more.....
If you're new to bike and I take it you are try to find someone who knows at least a little to go with you so you don't get screwed. But you want to look at the bar end and levers for scratches as this is a good indicator if the bike as been down as well as scratches on the fairings. You want to look at the tire tread to see if you will need to replace them anytime soon. You want to look at the brake pads to see if those will need to be replaced. Look at the chain and sprockets to see if there is wear on them or if they are in good shape. You want to make sure it starts and runs smooth, no CCTL rattle like the F4i's are known for. Ask the owner about maintenance like oil changes, coolant flush, how often he lubed the chain. Make sure the turn signals, horn and brights all work. Sit on it make sure your feet can touch the ground and that it is a comfortable riding position. If you know how to ride then ride it to make sure it rides straight and the gear box is smooth, the F4i's have a clunky gear box so be aware of that but it is still smooth. Make sure that the brakes work and there is good feel to both of them. If you don't know how to ride then please go take the MSF class first before you even buy a bike to make sure riding is for you and because you will learn a lot, you don't want to dump someone else's bike. That is a good start.

As far as what to look for, as previously mentioned look for scratches in key areas that may show if it was ever dumped. Check the CCT and see if there is any "bee's in a can" noise. Ask for service records if there are any. Check tires for any flat spots it it had been stored.
