02 F4i Headlight Wiring Help!
I bought my 2002 f4i used. The original owner did some chopping to the wiring to hook up a lowbeam HID headlight. One of the power wires would get hot and the connection will get weak causing the headlights to shut off. A quick fix for me was to use electrical tape to keep the wires touching. A few days later the wires would get so hot it would melt the tape off. Since I can already see the wires have been messed with badly, I decided to just purchase a replacement headlight and wireharness so I can start off from stock.
I tried to install it and ran into a few problems. First of all, the wiring the original owner did is real messy. The turn signals look like they are now using the original headlight connectors for power.
In these pictures you can see all the connectors that were used for the setup.
Heres the new headlight assembly (purchased used). between the headlights I have the wire box at the top and two connectors under it. The headlights on my bike right now do not have all of this.
Why is it that I have two FEMALE connectors that look identical? One of them is coming from the replacement headlight and the other connector is coming from the left hand controls (turn signal, horn, etc). Did I get the wrong harness for the replacement headlight?
Can anybody help me out? I need to know why the headlight harness and the harness from the left hand controls have the same connector. Am I missing something? I have downloaded the f4i service manual as well as a "honda wiring" color chart. As you can see in the pictures, the wiring looks real bad. I want to make sure the wires I will be working with are still the correct colors before I start removing the modifications the original owner has done.
Thanks for checkin the thread out!
