I just bought an R titles 02 F4i. The bike rides fine and is smooth until you hit the brakes.

It vibrates when you come on the brakes, regardless of how easy or hard you come on the brakes. The vibration/shake does get worse the harder you brake. I believe warped rotors, but the tire is worn slightly funny also.

I think I am going to put the wheel from my other F4i onto this bike and see if the problem goes away with a good tire and known straight rotors.

My other problem is I went to check the front fork settings. The right fork seems fine, the rebound screw has about 4.5 turns from full soft to full hard. The problem is on the left fork, it the rebound screw will only turn about 1 turn before it gets too hard to move. It also looks slightly bent. turned them both to full soft just to see what happened, it did nothing for the brake shake.

What should I do to fix the fork and any more ideas on the shake?

Oh and there is no play in the wheel bearing and I dont believe any play in the steering head bearings.

It's either the pads, rotor, and/or both. when is the last time you did a brake job? be sure the change the brake fluid too.

As for the forks, you should turn it all the way in one direction to reset the settings. To adjust them, you have to turn them both evenly. there are youtube videos on how to check for sag and adjust your bike's suspension.

I have no idea what an "r title" is but I doubt it really matters.
Your rotors are warped. Pads and brake fluid don't cause vibrations. Tire wear 99% of the time won't cause vibrations just under braking, its either all the time or nothing.
Your fork is as you said bent. Take it to get fixed or buy a new one on ebay, here or craigslist.

 

an R title is a rebuilt title, meaning the bike was wrecked back in 03 when it only had 5000 miles. It got new forks, wheel, etc to be fixed in 03. bike currently has 21000 miles

The fork itself is not bent. Only the adjuster screw sticking out of the top looks slightly off and will not turn correctly.

 

Sounds like the rotors are warped.

 

You were all right! it was the rotors. I put the wheel, rotors and all from my other bike onto this one and it fixed the vibration. onto the next question.

will the rotors from a 98 cbr f3 work on the f4i. I have an f3 that is totaled, the rotors on it are fine and measure the same diameter as the f4i, but havent compared them any farther than that.

 

The part numbers are different, other than that I don't know.

 

Not positive, but I do believe that the mounts on the rims are different, I know they are between the f4 and f4i anyways.

Is the front rim from your f3 in good shape by chance?
