01 Radiator hose EXPLODED

Sooo I sold my old f4i to my roommate, well while it was sitting at idle warming up and got up probably a little over 200deg we are sitting in the house and heard what sounded like a shotgun. Look outside and the bike is smoking...Turn off the bike .. fluid everywhere.. turned the key on to check temp and it was at 202.. Took off right fairing and noticed about a 5 inch tear in the right side radiator hose (the one that goes right under the fill cap) from where it comes off the motor. Any idea what may cause this? Anyone ever had it happen?

My guess would be she overheated. Question is why

thats what i thought at first, but the temp probably about 40 seconds after when i turned the key on was only a lil over 200

Exploding radiator hoses are generally caused by coolant boiling. Pretty sure your bike overheated, no matter what the gauge said by the time you got there. Even if it was caused by a pressure blockage, the bike would have overheated anyways since coolant wouldn't be flowing through the bike.

^ what he said.

Time for a new hose and a coolant FLUSH. Not just a change but a flush to make sure you clear any blockages that could have caused the tear...

Was this your roomates maiden voyage since his new purchase? if so that pretty funny...

Lol no he has probably put close to 1000 miles on it in less than a month.. I agree with the coolant flush for sure.. this bike hasn't had the easiest life use to be a full stunt bike so it could use some love.

Yep, bike overheated and could likely use a flushing.

On a similar note... my cousin was letting his k-car warm up one morning while we were inside drinking coffee, and I heard this weird noise that sounded like buzzing.
We walked outside to see his car at full throttle, filling the apartment parking lot with smoke. He ran to it, but right before he opened the door to shut it off... the motor exploded. :D
BANG!!
We just busted out laughing. Frickin' $300 college cars. :icon_doh:
