01 f4i whine from top end
i have an 05 f4i street bike, and picked up an 01 as a track bike. it was wrecked. it tumbled. i don't know if that had anything to do with the noise i'm hearing.
my 05 makes a slight whine when running. it increases in pitch when you rev it. i can hear it, but it is not pronounced. on the 01, it is LOUD. i don't dare rev it over 7k it is almost deafening. even with a loud pipe.
obviously the whine is the nature of the beast, but not that loud. i was thinking it might be the cam chain too tight. maybe the wreck jarred the cctl and it's pressing too hard on the chain. would it sound like that? i remember reading about adjusting the APE manual tensioners, and there was a sound it would make when it got too tight.
[edit] i replaced the stock cctl with the ape, no difference [/edit]
any other ideas? it's not an exhaust leak, the fuel pump, radiator fan, or anything airbox related. it is coming from the top end as far as i can tell. it has 12k miles on it.
thanks

Did you check for a supercharger?
No seriously though, take the bodywork and tank off. Run it and try to find the noise. Use a long handle screwdriver to help pinpoint the location. Keep in mind that once the fuel tank is off, you won't have much fuel in the system.
